It gives me great pleasure to inform you that we have secured a new venu and a Weekend Away for our Members at the relitively new Arabian Nights Desert Village, situated out in the Al Khatim area [approximately 1½- 2 hours from Abu Dhabi city centre].  The Village offers a timeless heritage of the Emirates mixed splendidly with modernity.  Members and their guests can go back to a time that history has passed by, but not forgotten. The rooms are masterfully recreated in the form of past dwellings and structures of the Emirati people. The solid stone bungalows stay true to the houses that once dominated Emirati communities of the past. The barasti huts are a tribute to the residences that once dotted the shorelines and tents of the desert: they need no introduction - they are timeless and amazing.  The evening starts at 19:00 with a Champagne & Canapés reception on the terrace then Dinner in the Al Maqam Restaurant for the remainder of the evening with special entertainment!  Chef Eric and all the staff are looking forward to giving us an weekend to remember!

There will be a maximum of 20 rooms (40 guests) available and, as usual for the first week, bookings will be for  members and their partners only. Guests will be entered but waitlisted. Most asked questions for this event:

 

  • Rooms – There are three distinctive rooms in zones, ‘Mud Hut’ which is more like a chalet, Barrasti and Tent all include bathrooms and air-con - check the website - http://www.arabiannightsvillage.com . ALL are equally comfortable and suitable - cost is the same for all.  There is no TV, Internet, Mini-Bar or Room service – as that defeats the whole purpose of getting away from it all!  There is cell phone availability though.  Cost includes ‘international breakfast’ so if you do not want Brunch and wish to check out before it starts you MUST let us know if you wish to take breakfast rather than brunch.  Also, booking is on a first come/pay first option on rooms and costs for the actual event are inclusive of any taxes etc.

 

  • Brunch – is a standard Brunch with an international selection of cuisine, standard wines, beers and spirits [including soft drinks, tea, coffee and water] are included in the cost.  Start time 11.30 to 13:00.

 

  • Check out MUST be before 12:00 noon if you are not staying over, there is facilities to store bags in safety.  So, if you are taking brunch you MUST check out first then go to the brunch.

 

  • Transport for Abu Dhabi only [Executive Bus] and is free of charge.  There will be two pick up points [Abu Dhabi City – Central Post Office, Madinat Zayed and Khalifa City – TBA].  Anyone wishing to drive [recommended as you can get out and take photographs if you like], a map is available on the website and is easy to follow.  The last 25 km is on subca but perfectly suitable for cars.  PICK UP will be 16:00 from first point and 16:30 from second.  PLEASE confirm if you wish to take the transport – as if we do not have sufficient numbers we will not be able to avail this option.

 

  • Amenities - Swimming pool [serviced/bar available at members’ cost].  Other activities such as camel riding, quad biking, henna etc. which are included in the package, suggest you verify with Reception when you check in and reserve a place before the event or this can also be availed the following morning.  There is also a large DUNE which can be climbed to watch the sun go down provided you arrive in time and can be done at your leisure and ‘level of fitness’!

 

  • Additional Stay on Friday night, this is to be paid by individuals direct to Reception cost [including International breakfast] – Double Room AED 1,500.- Single AED 1,150.- , please note that all bar bills etc. should also be paid, the Chaine will not cover this.  Those leaving after Brunch and using the transport will leave after brunch is over i.e. 13:45.

Regarding the Enthronisation and unification ceremony tomorrow at St. Regis, Saadiyat Island.

 

Those of you coming via alternate transport, please note you should go to the Regal Ballroom [A1], which is past the main lobby entrance.  St. Regis staff will be directing our group to the Ballroom entrance, but just in case!  Also, please ensure your arrive on time as we have much to do before the dinner!  Please see below details:

 

  • 18:30 - Arrival and photographs.  Members will receive their ‘special’ National Bailliage 

                Pins. Champagne Reception and Canapés on the Terrace.

  • 19:15 – Enthronisation and Dinner in the Regal Ballroom [kindly be seated by this time]! 

                Those being Enthronised you will need to make your way to the allotted seating on the left

                side of the stage.  Please note that you should remain in your seats until you are called to 

                the stage, once your induction ceremony is completed, you will need to go to the table at 

                the right side of the stage, sign for your regalia, membership card and certificate THEN 

                return to your seat [not your table].  We will take photographs during the ceremony 

               and then take a group photograph at the end, to assist and save time please help with 

               moving the chairs to the front of the stage.  Once the full ceremony is over with you may 

               then go to your respective tables.

  • Dinner – 20:15.

After several attempts we have finally managed to secure an event at Cipriani’s Yas Marina, we are also able to try something different by holding the event on a Thursday this time for a change.

 

The event a Cipriani will have a different twist to it so in order to find out what that will be, make sure you book promptly.  Cost of this event is AED 600.00 for members and their partners and AED 650.00 for guests.  For the first week, bookings will be restricted to members and partners only and guests will be waitlisted as per usual. After this, if there are still places available for guests they will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Kindly make your reservation in the usual way by filling in the attached form and making your payment no later than Monday 24th February to the office of the Secretariat.  Please remember that if your payment is not received by this date you may automatically lose your booking to a waitlisted member. All the guests enjoyed the food and wine immensely and this was evident from the empty plates returned to the kitchen.

It was such a joy to eat good food…..!

 

The foi gras was delicious;  the steak perfectly seared.  As Charles Neil, Conseiller Gastronomique, said … he has never before been asked at a group dinner how he wants his meat cooked.  Top marks to your Beth Costrove and her kitchen team.

I particularly loved the cheese + fig dessert paired with the Sauterne.

 

The service brigade was right on the ball – enthusiastic, attentive, smiling and knowledgeable.   Congratulations!

What a wonderful evening.  Many thanks for putting on such a splendid spectacle.

There were so many visual treats to excite the appetite …  chocolate counter at the entrance, table centre piece of fruit juices, caramelized sugar “tray” for dessert presentation of many different sweets plus the fresh berries + cheese cakes.

The food and wines were quite excellent.  And cheese after the dessert.

 

Congratulations to the Kitchen and Service brigades for making our October diner amical a memorable one.

Thanks also to Mr. Ashraf and Mr. Jamal for arranging very discreetly when, unexpectedly, 4 more guests turned up.

The Gala Diner Amical and Enthronization is probably the most eagerly awaited event on our calendar and this year's event, postponed from last month was no exception. And the Ritz Carlton lived up to their name in providing a magnificent evening for the more than one hundred members, new members and guests who attended this glittering occasion.

16. Table 9 Hilton on the Creek On March 25 2013 Contact

 

 

The Diner Amical at Table 9 by Nick and Scott was a refreshing evening – so often in the past it seems to me, we have been at the mercy of whatever was available on a general menu somewhere in a property, and so there was a real sense of challenge in the Chaine des Rotisseurs presentation on Monday 25th March.

 

The Tasting Panel had been tasked with sorting out one menu from two, and whilst the task of getting five courses from ten and wines to complement can be an onerous one, this was achieved largely with success. It could be that less would have been more in the selection of wines, but the food was both brilliantly conceived and a delight on the pallette, setting as it did further tests within each course to find balance in texture, flavour, colour and taste. The two fish courses, lobster and lemon sole, could, I felt, have been covered by one more carefully selected wine, and likewise, the pre-dessert of a deconstructed rhubarb crumble, delicious though it was, and the two politically incorrect ‘his and hers’ desserts of respectively chocolate and hazelnut and Strawberry and basil, could well have been supported by a single dessert wine.

 

The main course of perfectly pink lamb with lamb scratchings and tomato puree provided another delightful test of balancing the textures and flavours of each component of the dish with one another – a proper Chaine des Rotisseurs experience, complemented by the only really successful wine of the evening, a 2009 Syrah from South Africa. Without doubt the main course was the highlight of the evening and the only downside was the early removal of excellent bread which would have done sterling mopping duty on the remains of the light and generous jus.

 

The two young chefs at Table 9, Nick Alvis and Scott Price, are probably the most talented and underrated young professionals in Dubai at the moment. They will be well worth watching as they progress, and any opportunity to dine in their company should be grasped willingly.

Dear Chaine Members,
For the April function we are organizing with Six Senses, Zighy Bay to hold a special Chaine “Diner Amical” on Friday, April 27th.
Because of the distance, Zighy Bay are offering special package for members of US$ 550 per villa plus taxes (inclusive of breakfast), with the dinner to be paid for separately. The same rate would apply for 2 nights, and further discounts (to be notified) would apply for anyone wishing to spend longer.
Since there are only 22 Villas available, and Abu Dhabi and the Oman Chaine members will also be joining us, I would be grateful if you could let Charles Neil (charlesjohn.neil@gmail.com)  know if you are interested,  in principle, so that he can then work with the resort to accommodate as many people as possible.

The Capital Club DIFC

 

The Signature At The Capital Club, DIFC, Dubai, was the excellent venue for our festive diner amical.

 

Depute General Manager of Capital Club, Shahnaz Pakravan welcomed guests and opened the proceedings. 

 

Highlights of the menu, prepared by 15 chefs under the watchful eyes of Chef de Cuisine, Yoann Grillet, including an excellent duck liver terrine, superb pan-fried wild sea bass from Brittany and the main course of roast roe deer fillet, cooked to perfection with baby new potatoes, rolled cabbage and poivrade sauce.

 

Head Sommelier, Liza Underwood ensured the wines were well balanced and complementary. The Argentinian Malbec served with the venison was robust and spectacularly good.

 

Members and guests enjoyed dancing to live music into the small hours of the morning.

50. Ajman Kempinski Diner Amical On March 28 2009 Contact
 
What a superb evening and weekend for those of the Chaine des Rotisseurs who visited the Kempinski Ajman for the diner amical on Friday 24th April.
From the reception on the terrace with chilled Taittinger pink and white champagnes with canapies to the sumptuous fine dining in Sabella's, the Kempinski Ajman's Italian restaurant, it was a night to remember.
 
The diner amical menu was created by Chef Winfried Helmetag to celebrate the new asparagus season. the John Dory, veal and foie gras were the icing on a very generous cake.
  

Head Chef Winfried Helmetag and the team from Kempinski Hotel Ajman worked seamlessly with Food & beverage Manager, Kathrin Noll and her service brigade, to give us wonderfully fresh and beautifully presented creations throughout the evening.

 

The appreciation was delivered by Cromar Collie and the music and festivities continued thereafter. A fantastic performance by the kitchen and service brigade of the Kempinski Ajman, while their musicians, Brazilian harpist Jesse Pessoa and singer and flautist Cathy Hanson, kept us on our toes into the early hours of the morning.

Day use on 24 April 2009 for those who wish to spend the day at the beach and then have a room to refresh and dress up for the evening.

 BOOKING CONDITIONS 1 Unless otherwise stated, members may book for themselves and up to three guests. 2 To secure reservations, payment must be received within 72 hours of the event. Failing this, bookings will automatically be cancelled and members on the waiting list will be given an opportunity to take up these places. 3 Bookings can only be made for a current event and it is not possible to book in advance for future events.

57. Festive Diner Amical returns to the Kempinski On December 16 2008 Contact

Following the huge success of last years festive diner amical at the Kempinski Mall of the Emirates, we were delighted to announce our return there for this Decembers special celebration, held on Tuesday, December 16 at Sezzam, Kempinski Hotel, Mall of the Emirates.

At the spectacular event, held literally at the foot of the snow ski slope, the Fuad Barahim Award for excellence was presented to Sezzam for the best diner amical of 2007.

The award for 2008 will be announced and presented at the forthcoming Enthronisation ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai in January 2009.

58. THE CHINA CLUB On May 29 2008 Contact

The Chaine des Rotisseurs went Chinoise for their diner amical on Thursday 17th May, 2008 at The China Club, in the Radisson SAS Hotel Dubai, Deira Creek. Guest of honour Keith Floyd, broadcaster and author of more books than most people have hot dinners, gave the appreciation, saluting not only the efforts on the night, but Dubai as an unparalleled destination for international fine dining.

More than 60 guests enjoyed a champagne reception and freshly prepared Chinese beef, chicken and yellowfin tuna before moving to the China Club and an eight course extravaganza, amply matched by six different wines, sponsored by MMI.
